Son of legendary Pakistan player Moin Khan, Azam Khan didn’t achieve the same fame and recognition as his father. Because of his father’s success, he was in the spotlight.

However, his career hasn’t gone as well as expected. He also got the chance to showcase his potential and skills from 2021 to 2024. He played 14 T20I matches but failed to reach even a half-century.

However, he also got criticism from the fans due to his fielding and fitness. This poor performance created more barriers to his career as this type of game play led him out of the national team.

In a recent interview, Azam Khan opened up about his mistakes and blunders in the previous matches. However, he pointed out one particular match against England in 2024 that still bothers him because he didn’t perform well in that game. He also shared that these experiences taught him good lessons.

”Mark Wood ne mujhe pehla bouncer mara. I left it. I was like, ha theek hai. Matlab sahi hai. Humare yahan bhi 150 wale bowler hain (Mark Wood bowled the first bouncer. I left it. I thought, okay, we have 150 kph bowlers in Pakistan too),” Azam Khan was heard saying in a video.” Azam Khan said.

“When he bowled the second bouncer, I was like, woah, yeh matlab kya ho gaya mere saath? Like meri zindagi ekdum ruk gayi, bhai yeh mere saath kya ho gaya!!!?? (When he bowled the second bouncer, I thought, what just happened to me? My life paused for a moment, and I was stunned).“

“When my finger started hurting, I knew I was out. The Oval crowd started abusing me. There was a Pakistani reporter who asked a drunk Englishman about his favourite Pakistan player. He replied, ‘Azam Khan, he can’t bat, can’t field.’ That broke me. Kya yeh izzat hai meri? (Is this my reputation?) I dropped easy catches too. I was in tears. I kept thinking, yeh mere saath kya ho raha hai? (Why is this happening to me?)” he added.
