The Indian cricket team is expected to make several changes to the playing XI for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Debutant Sai Sudharsan, who had a disappointing outing in the first Test, is likely to be dropped from the squad.
According to a report, the team management is leaning towards including more all-rounders in the lineup, which could lead to Sai Sudharsan being left out after failing to make the most of his debut in the series opener. However, this move might draw criticism, as Sudharsan has only played one match so far and it was his very first Test appearance.
As per reports in the Indian Express, Sudarshan is set to be replaced by spin-bowling all rounder Washington Sundar, a player India head coach highly admires. But, the report also explains that the decision regarding Sudarshan is being taken not from a performance basis, but for team’s balance.
Is Sudarshan is dropped, Karun Nair is likley to be moved to the No. 3 spot with Shubman Gill continuing to play at the fourth place. Two more changes that is likley
Two other possible changes in the lineup include Nitish Reddy replacing Shardul Thakur and Akash Deep coming in for Jasprit Bumrah. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, the specialist spinner, is expected to remain on the sidelines once again.
“If fast bowlers are not creating enough chances, then we feel that maybe a second spinner on these kinds of wickets will at least create a run until the second new ball comes,” India captain Shubman Gill had said in the press conference on Tuesday. “Looking at the last match, if a similar wicket is going to be here like it was in the last match, then a second spinner won’t be a bad option.”
