The Afghanistan cricket team got announced for the Asia Cup 2025- a T20 format tournament set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28. Rashid Khan is going to be the leader of the team.

Naveen-ul-Haq is a name that has witnessed his return to the national team for the first time since December 2024. Apart from Naveen, teenage spinner Allah Ghazanfar is also going to play for Afghanistan for the first time in 2025 after a long absence due to an injury.

The duo of Naveen and Ghazanfar, along with skipper Rashid Khan, pacer Fazhalaq Farooqi and spinner Mujeeb ur Rahaman form a strong bowling lineup- with allrounder Azmatullah Omarzai also being in there.

Afghanistan is going to enter the tournament as one of the strongest teams, and will surely aim their best to win the competition for the first time in their history. It is to be noted that the Afghans have emerged as second-best Asian side beside India in the last three ICC while-ball events.

If speaking about the T20 format, Afghanistan team reached the semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. On top of that, the Rashid Khan-led side had an unforgettable campaign as they defeated New Zealand and Australia for the first time in the history of any format.
