It has been a year since Indian cricket witnessed one of its darkest moments- where Hardik Pandya got booed and abused across the country as Mumbai Indians (MI) decided to drop Rohit Sharma as the captain and appoint Pandya with the role. Now, new revelations have been made claiming the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got involved in this incident.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla opened up about the controversy and revealed that the board had reached out to Hardik Pandya during that time, but did not accept blaming Rohit Sharma, stating that his fans did not like what happened. Shukla also praised Pandya for handling the matter well.

“When such incidents happen, people within the BCCI do reach out to players not to worry. In Hardik’s case, Rohit Sharma’s fan base did not like it. But the matter is done. Neither did Rohit Sharma provoke anybody, and Hardik always knew this could happen and was mature,” said Shukla in an interaction on the UPT20 league’s YouTube channel.

Hardik Pandya got booed and abused throughout the seven home games that MI played at the Wankhede Stadium. However, just one and a half month later, Pandya received equal or even more amount of cheers and praises when he returned with the Indian team for the victory ceremony of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Notably, Pandya even walked out at the Mumbai airport with the trophy in his own hands.
