The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has approved a plan to rename one of the stands at the Wankhede Stadium in honour of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. This decision was finalised on April 15, during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). The MCA has also disclosed that two more stands are going to be named after batting great Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar.
“Another key resolution passed during the AGM was the approval of the naming of stands at Wankhede Stadium – a proposal initially put forward by Mr Milind Narvekar and seconded by Mr Jitendra Awhad. The house unanimously approved the stand namings,” the cricket body said in a statement
The stands will now be called as:
Grand Stand Level 3: Shri Sharad Pawar stand
Grand Stand Level 4: Ajit Wadekar stand
Divecha Pavilion Level 3: Rohit Sharma stand
There are already a lot of stands named after number of Indian cricket sensationas at the Wankhede Stadium. Some of the stands are after greats such as Dilip Vengsarkar, Vijay Merchant, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. Just like other great players from Mumbai, Rohit Sharma also has a long and impressive history with the Wankhede Stadium.
