Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally settled on a replacement for their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ruturaj was ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2025 due to a fracture on his elbow. Ever since the update on his injury, there has been speculations on Prithvi Shaw being potentially named as the replacement player.
However, the franchise has decided on taking a 17-year0old youngster as Ruturaj Gaikwad’s replacement. For those who are not familiar with the situation, Prithvi Shaw had went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
CSK have finalised on taking Mumbai opener Ayush Mhatre as Ruturaj’s replacement. Sources have confirmed that the youngster is going to join Chennai squad for remainder of IPL 2025.
There was not much time for Ayush to join the team for their clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, he is going to be available for selection for the clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20, 2025.
“Ayush Mhatre has been identified as the replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad. He has been asked to link up with the squad. He will be available for selection for the April 20 fixture against Mumbai Indians,” the source confirmed.
CSK management had earlier asked Ayush to travel to their camp in Chennai for trials. That time, he had impressed the support staff and was hence named as the replacement.
