Indian team has been terrific with the white-ball, winning two ICC trophies in 9 months. However, the team has lacked in the red-ball format. They have lost two back to back series- against New Zealand and then to Australia, and could not also manage to reach the World Test Championship 2025 final.
The team deeply missed the spectacular cricket by Cheteshwar Pujara in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as there were rumours that he was selected for selection. As of now, Pujara has sent out a message three months ahead of an important five-match series against England, which is set to be held in June.
In an interaction with RevSportZ, Cheteshwar revealed his interest in playing for the Indian team, and is doing his best to achieve this goal by participating in the domestic circuit. Pujara has also been playing county cricket in the last few years.
“Yes, of course. As a cricketer, you always want to play for the Indian team. And I am doing whatever I can to achieve that success. If the team needs me, I’m definitely ready. I’ve been playing domestic cricket. I’ve been playing county cricket for the last couple of years. I’ve been scoring heavily in the domestic circuit. So if given an opportunity, yes, I’ll be more than ready to grab it with both hands,” Pujara said.
“Yes, I was very confident. If I was there, then we wanted to make a hat trick. So I wouldn’t deny that,” he added.
“This Indian team definitely has a very good chance. Even if you look at the England bowling lineup, they are slightly weaker after Anderson has retired, and Stuart Broad is not there anymore in the playing XI,” he added.
India will face England in a five-match Test series in June as they eye to begin their World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign with a good start, especially since the bowling attack of the English team has weakened by James Anderson and Stuart Broad retiring from the game.
