In Manchester, the fourth Test between India and England ended in a draw, but there was still late drama. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, both of whom notched centuries on the final day, helped India escape with a draw and dashed England’s hopes of sealing the five-match series. A rumor claims that England captain Ben Stokes proposed ending the match as Jadeja and Sundar approached their milestones, but the proposal was turned down. As the Indian pair completed their centuries against part-time bowler Harry Brook, yet another dramatic moment unfolded.
In a video circulating on social media, Harry Brook extends a handshake to Ravindra Jadeja after he reaches his century, as if India would now agree to a draw. Unintentionally, Jadeja and Washington Sundar left Brook hanging with his hand still extended, overlooked in the middle of their celebrations.
In the final overs, England employed part-time bowlers Harry Brook and Joe Root, and Washington Sundar scored his century just before the match ended.
England captain Ben Stokes explained his decision to use part-time bowlers after India declined an early draw offer.
“Yeah, I think all the hard work was done by India. They both (Washi and Jadeja) played incredibly well and it got to that point where there was obviously only one result and there was absolutely no chance I was going to risk any of my big fast bowlers through injuries with one more game to go. Dawsy (Dawson) just bowled so many overs this game his body started to get a little bit tired and started to cramp up in the legs so I wasn’t risking any of my frontline bowlers for that last half an hour,” Ben Stokes said after the game.
With the series still alive, all eyes now turn to the decider at the Oval.
