India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a remarkable start to his Test career that no record seems out of reach. On Day 4 of the second Test against England, he delivered yet another impactful knock, scoring 65 off just 58 balls.
During his time at the crease, Pant faced verbal taunts from the England players attempting to unsettle him. Harry Brook even tried to provoke him into chasing the fastest Test century, but Pant calmly responded with a fitting remark: “Not greedy.”
It began when Brook asked Pant about his fastest century record. Initially, Pant thought Brook was referring to the time taken in minutes, but he was soon told that Brook was actually asking about the number of balls faced.
“What’s your fastest 100?” Brook asked. “Test cricket? 80-90 minutes,” Pant said in response.
“The fastest I have done is 55 balls. You could have done that today,” Brook said. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter then delivered a reply that left Brook silenced. “It’s okay, not very greedy for records. If it happens, it happens,” he said.
As India edged closer to victory in the Edgbaston Test, England’s batting coach Marcus Trescothick admitted that the team would be content with a draw on Day 5.
Despite the buzz around ‘Bazball’, Trescothick stated that his players are smart enough to know when to go for a win and when to play for a draw, especially in “challenging” conditions.
“I think whenever the situation is challenging, of course it is. I think you know if you get to the point where you can draw the game, of course. We’re not stupid enough to understand that, you know, you have to just win or lose,” Trescothick told the media at the end of the 4th day’s play.
