Rishabh Pant hurt his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep shot off Chris Woakes delivery but the ball struck his leg instead.
Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was batting brilliantly, breaking the confidence of the England bowlers. However Pant was attempting to play a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes delivery, the ball stuck his right foot, causing concern for the Indian team. At that moment, he was batting on 37 off 48 balls, with two fours and one massive six, but had to moved out of the field in a golf cart.
After the end of the day BCCI updates about Pant’s Injury: “Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”
This was Pant’s second injury in the series the first was to his index finger while attempting to save runs. Now, he tried to play a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes’ delivery, which struck his right foot and increased concerns for the team.
Indian batter who just hit his maiden fifty in test match and almost fulfill the role of Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan played a brilliant innings of 61 runs on 151 balls with a fully calm mind, he said that If Pant is ruled out of the series. Rishabh Pant’s injury has raised serious doubts and it could swing the serious in England’s favor.
“Obviously, because he (Pant) was batting really well today as well. So, and plus we miss out, miss a batter if he doesn’t come back again,” Sudharsan said this on press-conference.
“So, it will definitely have consequences. But at the same time, the batters who are batting right now and there are a few more all-rounders inside. So, we’ll try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss very well,” Dhruv Jurel kept the wickets in the absence of Rishabh Pant.
If Pant doesn’t feel comfortable, then Dhruv Jurel will have to keep wickets again, just like he did in the last match at Lord’s.
If Rishabh Pant is unfortunately ruled out of the rest of the series, Team India might turn to Ishan Kishan for support. He’s recently been in action, playing two county games for Nottinghamshire.
KL Rahul can also keep the wickets, but the last he was behind the stumps was during the tour against South Africa in the 2023-24 season.
