Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was fined Rs 12 lakh on Saturday for his team’s slow over-rate during their seven-wicket triumph over Delhi Capitals in the IPL match held in Jaipur. Jos Butler 97 off 54 delivery, helped GT chase down the massive total of 204 with four balls to spare.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL said in a statement.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans bowling unit, led by an impressive Prasidh Krishna (4/41), put in a disciplined performance to restrict Delhi Capitals to a modest 203 for eight.
Gill joins the list of captains penalised for slow over-rate in IPL 2025, which includes Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Riyan Parag (RR), and Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians). Unlike last season, this IPL season has dropped the idea to ban players, opting instead for fines, demerit points, and in-game penalties.
Coming to the match, Gill opted to ball first after winning the toss in Ahmedabad, where the maximum temperature was 40C. DC scored a massive total of 203, which was scored by GT easily. Jos Butler was given the Player of the Match award for his brilliant knock of 97 off 54 balls.
