Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad shared a heartfelt message for Ravichandran Ashwin following the veteran spinner’s announcement of IPL retirement on August 27. Gaikwad said it was a privilege to share the dressing room with a player of Ashwin’s caliber, recalling their time together in the yellow jersey.

The two reunited in IPL 2025 when CSK brought Ashwin back into the fold for ₹9.75 crore at the mega-auction. However, the season turned out to be one to forget for the five-time champions. CSK endured a poor run, finishing at the bottom of the table with just 8 points from 14 matches.

To make matters worse, Gaikwad himself was forced to cut his campaign short after sustaining an elbow fracture midway through the season. His injury saw MS Dhoni return to the leadership role, but the team couldn’t recover, marking a disappointing outing for the Chennai-based franchise.

“To watching you play for the OG CSK and then getting to play alongside in yellow, privileged to share the dressing room with you, Ash anna,” Gaikwad wrote on his Instagram story.

CSK Pays Emotional Tribute to Ashwin After IPL Retirement
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took to social media to honor Ravichandran Ashwin after he announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League. The franchise hailed the 38-year-old for his immense contribution, celebrating his legacy in the yellow jersey.
Ashwin, who spent 16 seasons in the IPL, featured in eight of them for CSK and remains one of the franchise’s all-time greats. With 127 wickets from 130 matches, he stands as the team’s third-highest wicket-taker, underlining the impact he had during his successful stint with the Chennai-based outfit.

“Chepauk’s own. The carrom-ball thiruppura-sundaran! From your first run-ups in Yellove on the dusty tracks of Anbuden to absolute spin domination in the world’s grandest arenas, you’ve given us everything,” CSK’s post read.
