Team India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are known for their amazing bond not just on the field but also off the field. Rohit is currently playing in one format for Team India but Dhawan has retired. Dhawan has now written his autobiography in which he has made a shocking revelation.
Shikhar Dhawan has revealed an interesting story from his life. In his book ‘The One: Cricket, My Life and More’, he mentioned an exciting incident that happened during the Australia tour in 2006. At that time he was in Australia with the India-A team and he fell in love with a girl.
In 2006, Shikhar Dhawan reached Darwin while touring Australia with the India-A team. There, his eyes fell on a beautiful girl in the immigration line. The two started talking while collecting luggage. After a short conversation, they exchanged phone numbers and email IDs. Shikhar emailed her as soon as he reached the hotel, and she replied. After this, Shikhar invited her to a party, and she agreed.
Shikhar also mentioned that he used to take the girl to his hotel room, which he shared with Rohit Sharma. Shikhar said, ‘I fell in love with that beautiful girl. I felt that she was right for me and I would marry her. After every match, I would go to meet her and bring her to my room.’ Rohit Sharma did not like all this much. Shikhar laughingly told, ‘Rohit would sometimes complain in Hindi, ‘Will you let me sleep?’
Soon, their relationship became known to everyone in the team after a senior national selector spotted them together in the hotel lobby
Shikhar said, “One evening, when I headed for dinner with Ellen, news of her presence spread like wildfire throughout the entire squad. A senior national selector, who was on tour with us, spotted us walking in the lobby with our hands linked. It didn’t even occur to me that I should let go of her hand, because to me, we were committing no crime,” wrote Dhawan.
Dhawan played 167 ODIs, 68 T20Is, and 34 Tests for India. He had a successful 50-over format as he registered 6793 runs at an average of 44.11
