Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins blamed him and the team’s bowling attack for the team’s 38-run loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) during their Indian premier League (IPL) campaign on 2nd May.
Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill had hit four boundaries off Mohammed Shami. 17 runs were also hit against skipper Pat Cummins and medium-pacer Harshal Patel. GT batters had scored 82 runs within the powerplay itself, which is the highest by the franchise in the history of their time in the IPL. Following the 38-run loss, the captain took the blame on himself and the bowlers for bowling a lot of bad deliveries.
“Our powerplay with the bat wasn’t too great. I was as guilty as anyone else. Probably let them get 20-30 extra runs. Maybe hang on to one or two catches. Again am guilty there. Chasing 200 looked a bit more realistic. They are class batters. They don’t do anything outlandish. If you bowl bad balls, they just put it away. We probably dished out too many bad balls. It is a really good wicket,” said Pat Cummins during post match presentation.
SRH failed to get a good start when they came to chase, as one of their key player Travis Head got dismissed within the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma was the only player from the team who had scored more than even 25 runs, as he scored 74 off 41 balls. He was praised by Pat Cummins for his impressive knock.\
“Going for 140 in the last 14 overs was good on the bowling part. Sharma batted nicely. Nitish at the end. Left a little too much and too late for the batters,” Cummins said.
Coming to the match, Gujarat Titans inched closer to sealing a playoff spot with a 38-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL match here on Friday.
Invited to bat, skipper Shubman Gill scored a 38-ball 76 before Jos Buttler slammed 64 off 37 deliveries for the Titans.
In reply, Abhishek Sharma (74) gave SRH a solid start but GT bowlers stopped the visitors at 186 for 6.
