Shreyas Iyer began his time as the captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) with a victory, as the team won over Gujarat Titans by 11 runs. Shreyas won the Player of the Match (POTM) award as he had played an impressive knock of 97* in jus 42 balls.
This match marked a great record in history of Indian Premier League (IPL) as Shreyas became the first captain in history of IPL to play in a different franchise after winning one season. The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper is also the second Indian to lead three different teams in IPL.
Notably, Shreyas Iyer and Kumar Sangakkara are the only captains who have been named full-time skippers for all the three franchises they have captained. Along with that, Shreyas is also currently the only captain to have led three teams among the 10 franchises.
PBKS secured a victory in their IPL 2025 season opener, as Shreyas secured his name in history books by becoming the first player in the tournament to win on his captaincy debut with three different teams.
